Behind The Scenes With The Designer

We had a chance to sit down with Tribe Alive’s designer, Katie Sansom to hear her inspiration behind the new apparel line which incorporated the captivating colors and textures of Guatemala and was designed with the well traveled woman in mind. Katie shared her plans for future collections to include warmer and brighter hues and some bolder silhouettes and styling.

The new line is stunning, tell us about your inspiration

Tribe Alive’s debut apparel collection was very much inspired by the breathtaking setting of Lake Atitlan, the backdrop of our weaving studio in Guatemala – from it’s stunning shades of blue and the peace and easiness we felt standing in the face of such beauty to the breeze that rolls off the water. Our collections across all categories always carry common themes of minimalism, ease, and letting beautiful materials speak for themselves through simple design, and the apparel collection is no different.

Who was the collection designed for?

Our muse through the design process is a well-traveled woman who is informed about the world and its people, places value in quality over quantity, and is aware of the trends but remains timeless and individualistic in her fashion. Stripes are and will always be at the root of our apparel collection, and it this first season they are mixed with delicate embroidery and modern plaids to play off of each other in effortless style. We love the way stripes can constantly be reinvented with new coloration and composition, and to us they evoke the easiness and confidence that we always want someone wearing Tribe Alive to feel.

What can we expect from future collections?

For the Spring/Summer 2017 collection, we stuck true to the history of Tribe by designing in a neutral color palette that includes varying shades of blue. We feel that this line is a very true representation of who we are as a brand, and that brings us great pride. For Fall 2017 we will be shaking things up with the incorporation of warmer and brighter hues and some bolder silhouettes and styling. We hope that this collection honors each incredible artisans whose hands touched some piece of it and that it makes any woman who wears it feel beautiful, confident, empowered, and like the best of herself.
