The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

When it comes to special occasion events like weddings, holiday galas, school dances, or maternity shoots, renting a dress or gown beats buying pieces that only get worn once. Clothes that sit in the back of our closets do not add value to our lives, and neither do cheap fast-fashion pieces that quickly go out of style but pollute the planet. Renting is an affordable way to wear designer dresses and it’s a more sustainable option. Win-win.

Below are our favorite sites to rent a dress or designer clothing online. Many offer subscriptions (we love Rent the Runway’s monthly subscription!) if you are looking to invest in staple pieces but round out your wardrobe by renting occasion wear.
