All About Fall

September is a month to get things done. Lazy summer days have been and gone, we all feel a little bit more rested and relaxed and ready to hit the ground running for a new term, new season, new start.  However much we might love long days lounging by the pool, reading books and enjoying the odd midday glass of sustainable Rosé, the ethical fashionista also needs a purpose. By September we are ready to get back to work. With the prospect of a brand new season ahead, a chance to switch your wardrobe and put together some new looks along with the buzz of fashion weeks – there is so much going for Fall. And that is before we’ve even bothered to look outside at the spectacular show that Mother Nature spoils us with in Fall – turning leaves, abundant harvests and golden days.

Sayonara Summer, for now we are all about Fall.

BACK TO WORK

Get your game head on. Years of heading back to school in September have left their mark – it still feels like a time to start afresh, get organized, set yourself career goals and generally smash it when it comes to your 9 to 5. Naturally you need a wardrobe that exudes smart, sustainable and stylish vibes and, of course, it needs to be ethical. Look for perfectly made separates that work as hard as you do. Kowtow’s organic cotton Culottes are a no brainer and one of our pieces of the season at Gather&See. Pair them with Matt&Nat vegan brogues and a simple white shirt, little silk T or a thicker knit in colder months for an effortlessly stylish work look. PiC Style’s modular wardrobe selection is ideal for workwear – mix and match their 8 piece collection for a multitude of options. Don’t forget your working girl bag. It needs to be sturdy and chic – we love Danielle Foster’s classic totes and Matt&Nat’s satchels for a contemporary take on the work bag.

LAYER IT UP

We so often see an Indian Summer in September with warmer weather continuing well into the month but crisp cold days aren’t far around the corner. Follow the lead of the pros attending the world’s most famous fashion weeks in NYC, London, Milan and Paris and layer things up. If you start with the basic’s like Kowtow’s gorgeous black Get Away Pants and Woron’s tight fitting turtle neck body you can add layers to provide both warmth and a voluminous fashion forward silhouette. We love Kowtow’s See You There Dress as a layering piece, Tricotage’s virgin wool jumpers and more often than not will be finishing things off has to be Osei Duro’s cosy but cool Boucle Bomber.

NATURE’S HARVEST

If you love organic food as much as we do then you will know that you can’t beat Fall for the amazing produce on offer. Seasonal favourites include apples, blackberries, squashes and figs. For a brilliant de-stresser throw on an appropriately country friendly Tricotage knit and get outside into the hedgerows and forage for your own. You know that it is untreated just as nature intended and you will find the end result even sweeter having put in your own hard work. For brilliant healthy recipes and a focus on seasonal food we love Hemsley & Hemsley and Deliciously Ella. Nature has always been one of fashion’s greatest inspirations – this season we are delighted to welcome British fair trade jeweller Barocco whose nature inspired pieces such as a Walnut Necklace and Blackberry Earrings are cast from Fair Trade metals.

AW TRENDS WE LOVE

Sports Luxe

What is not to love about this trend – beautifully luxurious fabrics, soft and comfortable shapes. It is a look that lends itself brilliantly to eco-friendly fabrics such as organic cotton and Tencel. Kowtow’s Building Block pants and perfect organic cotton jersey T’s in this seasons pretty blush colour provide the perfect nod to the Sports Luxe vibe.

Monochrome

Black is back. Fashion’s favourite colour never really goes out of style but this season it has come into the fore. Mix it with crisp whites for elegance or toughen up feminine blouses and dresses with black accessories – check out Matt&Nat’s vegan offering.
