As a kid I loved fashion. I would design clothes and put together these crazy outfits and insist on wearing them out much to my mother’s embarrassment. Then as I got into my teens when most people really start exploring their style I totally abandoned mine. I got it into my head that fashion wasn’t serious enough. I still liked clothes, but I wouldn’t admit it.

Thanks to a book about the horrors of fast fashion I rediscovered my love of fashion in my late 20’s. I picked up a copy of Overdressed by Elizabeth L. Cline and was floored. I had no idea how important fashion was to the health of our planet. As I began to research it, the old thrill I’d get from putting together outfits came back to me. I was hooked on fashion all over again. Only this time, it was ethical.

As much as I love new ethical fashion brands, today I’m really interested in vintage and repurposed clothing. I love anything with a story and when I buy something vintage I spend time imagining the life it led before it got to me. Each piece creates a whole world in my head and when I put it on I get to inhabit that world.

I pay attention to when a piece gives me that little jolt of excitement. That’s when I know I should buy it.

I can’t think too much about a particular style or point of view, I’m more of an emotional dresser. I just pay attention to when a piece gives me that little jolt of excitement. That’s when I know I should buy it. It also means that I can’t plan an outfit in my head, I have to try a million different combinations until I find the one that feels just right. It leads to a very messy bedroom, but that’s a price I’m willing to pay. Plus, I repeat outfits all the time, which means I don’t have to go through that whole messy process every day. Thank the fashion gods!

Monday

Mondays I take care of everything business related. I post my blog, run errands, catch up on emails that sort of thing. I spend most of the day running around so I need sturdy flats and a bag that fits everything.

Today’s Pieces:

Forever 21 Vest that I’ve had for over a decade
White t-shirt I stole out of my friend’s donate pile | Matter Prints pants
Vintage Anne Klein sandals | Hiptipico Tote
Bracelet bought from a street artisan in Colombia

Tuesday

I like to schedule all my meetings on one day and Tuesday seem to be it. I see a wide range of people so I have to strike a balance between fashionable/professional/comfortable. My vintage blazer tones down the leopard shorts while still letting me flaunt my style.

Today’s Pieces:

Vintage blazer from Cluebelle | Alternative Apparel tank | Vintage shorts
Vintage velvet loafers

Wednesday

This is one of my favorite go-to outfits right now. It makes me feel like I’m straight out of the 70’s! The faux fur vest always adds an extra bounce to my step.

Today’s Pieces:

Secondhand Missoni sweater from The Real Real | Second hand faux-fur vest
Vintage leather and sterling silver belt from a clothing swap
Furst Jeans purchased 8 years ago
Second hand Nine West Mules purchased from ThredUp

Thursday

Even though I usually work in very casual environments I love to get dressed up. This outfit strikes the perfect balance for me.

Today’s Pieces:

Vintage blazer | Secondhand pussy-bow top | American Apparel skirt
Swedish Stockings | Vegan Doc Martens

Friday

This is when I get most of my creative work done. I spend Friday and into the weekend writing and brainstorming. It’s my favorite time of the week! On my writing days it’s all about comfort. I love to practically cocoon myself in softness while I work.

Today’s Pieces:

Liz Alig Sweater | Monkee Genes
