I eat organically, so why shouldn’t the clothes I wear be organic?

My ethical fashion journey came about somewhat organically about a year ago. I started taking mindfulness classes through a local university and during one of our first sessions, we did a mindful eating mediation where we held a couple of grapes in our hands and took some mindful bites and during this process reflected on the steps and all the people that it took to get these simple grapes into our possession.

That simple meditation completely changed my outlook on many aspects of my life and I eventually applied this same process to the clothes that I purchase and put on my body. I eat organically, so why shouldn’t the clothes I wear be organic?

There are so many people involved in making our clothes…Every one of their lives matter and every one of them deserves to work in safe environment and earn a livable wage.

And after watching the True Cost, it really put things into further perspective for me. There are so many people involved in making our clothes—from the designers, the factory workers that sew the garments, the men and women who make or grow the fabrics, the warehouse workers and sales reps (and everyone in-between)—every one of their jobs are important in creating the products that we purchase. Every one of their lives matter and every one of them deserves to work in safe environment and earn a livable wage.

Since discovering this new awareness, I’ve made a more mindful approach to fashion and shopping, favoring brands that are in line with my mission, shopping secondhand when I find pieces that I love, as well as continuing to purchase classic and investment pieces that will last for years to come. I believe that the clothes you wear should make you feel beautiful both in the inside and out. I’m a huge proponent of doing more things that make you happy, and for me that is dressing up in my unique style and spreading the message of mindfulness and doing good. I love the quote by Marc Jacobs “Let’s do what we love and do a lot of it”. My Ethical + Sustainable platform allows me to do what I love and be my true self.

Monday

Mondays are my day to drop off the girls at preschool and it’s always a hectic, but fun morning. Since we’re typically rushing out the door, I threw on my favorite pair of stretchy pants by Rag & Bone (I wear these all the time!) and this Duster in the Dandelion print by Sseko Designs—I instantly feel more put together when I wear this! I’m wearing a turtleneck by Amour Vert since it’s been a little cooler in Los Angeles and these comfy modern pointed flats that were gifted by Rothy’s. I also LOVE this bandolier iPhone case that I use daily! The girls are wearing dresses by the sustainable UK-based brand, Boden.

Today’s Pieces:

Rag & Bone High Rise Skinny Jeans
Sseko Designs Dandelion Duster (similar)
Amour Vert Turtleneck
Rothy’s Pointed Flats
Bandolier iPhone case
Boden Girls Dresses

Tuesday

My schedule varies week-by-week depending on if I have to travel for work, but if I am free on a Tuesday morning, you’ll almost always find me at the Farmer’s Market having a play date with friends or picking up fresh local fruits. Today, I stopped by the market to grab some flowers and plums wearing these super flattering wide leg crop pants by Everlane and the Sergei Jumper by Sézane. I’m also wearing these Gianvito Rossi mules that I purchased pre-loved, a Filt string bag for my produce and this necklace that was passed down to me from my mom that I wear 95% of the time.

Today’s Pieces:

Sézane Sweater
Everlane Pants
Gianvito Rossi Mules (Similar)
Filt Bag
Sézane Demain Tote

Wednesday

I thrive on in-person dates, so a week doesn’t go by without meeting at least 1 friend for lunch or coffee. I met my friend Sara at my favorite local coffee shop and ordered my new favorite drink: a golden turmeric latte with almond milk—you should definitely try it! Today I’m wearing my Rag & Bone skinnies, the Crepin Jumper by Sézane and Heeled Chelsea Boots from Nisolo—a company that designs beautiful, intentionally and ethically-made footwear and accessories at a fair price. This is my third pair of shoes from Nisolo and certainly not my last.

Today’s Pieces:

Sézane Sweater
Rag & Bone High Rise Skinny Jeans
Nisolo Heeled Chelsea Boot

Thursday

I work for a Corporate Healthcare company that allows me to work from home most days of the week, and so the times that I do have to go into the office, I like to dress professionally. I love this jumper from the VETTA Capsule that you can tie in the front or the back to change up the look, worn with a blazer by Rag & Bone, purchased via The RealReal. These Gianvito Rossi pumps are the most comfortable pair of heels I own and the Work Satchel from Cuyana was a gift from my Husband a couple years ago.

Today’s Pieces:

VETTA Capsule Apron Jumpsuit (similar)
Rag & Bone Blazer
Gianvito Rossi heels
Sézane Necklace
Cuyana Bag
Timex Watch

Friday

My husband and I have been making more of an effort to go on date nights (and couples date nights!) at least a couple times a month. Alex and I went to dinner at our go-to Sushi spot in Manhattan Beach and watched Mary Poppins Returns, which is actually very good! For dresses and special occasions, I love shopping at Reformation. I wore the Reformation Locklin dress with the Lucia Block Heel Sandals. This YSL clutch was a special purchase that I gave to myself getting a new job last summer and this Céline Bangle was a gift from Alex from Christmas via The RealReal (he saw it on my “favorites” and purchased it for me!). Alex is wearing a PACT sweater that I gifted him for Christmas <3

Today’s Pieces:

Reformation Dress (similar)
Nisolo Sandals
Céline Bangle (similar)
YSL Clutch (similar)
Alex is wearing this PACT sweater
