The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

Our editors have reviewed dozens of organic and sustainable throw blankets—these are the best brands for nontoxic fabrics, cozy materials, and a range of styles and sizes for every home.

We’ve rounded up the best throw blankets on the market: from sustainable blankets to comfy couch throws, these brands are making soft cotton blankets we love, many of which are woven by artisans around the globe. Take your pick from chunky knits, bouclés, reclaimed cashmere and wool, and everything in between (including organic throw blankets!)—then meet us over at the couch.

Why choose organic?

“Organic fibers are breathable, come in a variety of weights and weaves, and can be temperature regulating,” says Whitney Thornburg, design director of Coyuchi, an organic bedding brand with one of our favorite sustainable throw blanket collections. Thornburg recommends staying away from synthetic fabrics because of their reduced breathability.

Organic blankets are soft and comforting, which we love, but they also keep harmful chemicals out of our homes. Take VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, for example. These chemicals diffuse into the air and can be toxic to human health. Synthetic fabrics like polyester and microfiber are derived from petroleum, and their manufacturing process is a nasty business (literally). Production of these synthetic materials can also make factory workers ill from toxic chemicals. Finally, organic fabrics tend to use less water and energy in their production. And with fabrics like organic cotton and linen, you can be sure that damaging chemicals like pesticides don’t seep into the earth or your home.

Our Criteria:

  • ORGANIC & CLEAN | Each of these blankets is made of natural or recycled materials like cotton, linen, or Tencel. Many of the below options come with third-party certifications to guarantee consumer safety like GOTS, Oeko Tex, GreenGuard, or PFAS-free.
  • COMFORT | Our editors have personally tested these blankets, done extensive research on the brands, and scoured online reviews to find the best brands offering comfortable, breathable throw blankets for every style and budget.
  • ENVIRONMENT | Each brand takes care of its employees and the earth, along with its customers. These companies are committed to caring for the environment and to safe labor practices. Many of these blankets are also artisan made.
