The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

We’ve personally slept on and reviewed nontoxic bedding for years — these are our favorite cooling sheets that are sustainable, breathable, and affordable, too.

What’s best for keeping ourselves cool overnight? Usually, fabrics like bamboo, TENCEL, and linen — all of which are eco-friendly! We’ve personally slept on ten of our favorite cooling (sustainable) sheet sets to give you a better idea of what sheets will work for you.

Plus, we took photos so you can see the fabrics in real life before making your purchase! Sleep sweat-free and beat the heat while also supporting responsible production, sustainable practices, and fair trade companies.

What are cooling bed sheets?

These aren’t some fancy AI sheets that use tech to keep you cool! Instead, these sheets use certain fabrics you probably already know and love, like linen, TENCEL, bamboo, and percale. If you’re a hot sleeper (or have a partner who is a hot sleeper), these are the fabrics you’ll want to watch for.

Percale, linen, TENCEL, and bamboo sheets work by cooling your body and core temp down at night so that you can rest comfortably. They are more breathable, wick away sweat, and offer that crisp and cool feel when climbing into bed. Whether you live somewhere warm or just run hot yourself (hello, hormones!), try out one of these options for getting a cooler, better night of rest!

Our methodology & criteria:

The Good Trade was sent sheets to review, and we personally tested all of the options below, seeing how they felt and how they held up in the washer and dryer, too. All of the options meet the criteria outlined in the section below. Read on after that for my notes on how each brand did.

  • SUSTAINABLE & ECO-FRIENDLY | Each brand is thoughtful about how its sheets are made, and many have organic and nontoxic certifications, too. It’s important for us that we only recommend sheets from brands we trust and that we feel safe sleeping on ourselves. All of these brands meet that criteria.
  • COST | The sheets below are offered at a range of price points, with linen being the highest and percale being the most affordable option. We wanted to include something for everyone, so we’ve tested sheets from various brands.
  • COMFORT | Linen specifically is known for its breathability, while percale is crisp and smooth. All of the sheets we tested were rated for comfort and how they felt on our skin while climbing into bed.

Best Overall | Best Linen | Best Bamboo

1. Cultiver’s Linen Sheet Set

Eco friendly packaging
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified
Woman owned

Best For | High-end organic flax linen cooling sheets
Materials | OEKO-TEX certified flax linen
Starting At | $445 for queen sheet set

If your nose is scrunching at this price point, hear us out: Cultiver is responsible for some of our best sleep scores ever. The Australia-based bedding brand creates our very favorite linen sheets using OEKO-TEX-certified European flax and opting for a slightly heavier weight (165gsm) that’s durable but still breathable. They are pre-washed for softness and have won “our favorite linen sheets” from Wirecutter. They’ve won in our books, too and are the very definition of luxurious rest. Of all the sheets we’ve tested on this list, these are the ones we reach for again and again. It seems this way for customers, too, as these sheets have 900+ 5-star reviews (one reviewer calls them a “delight,” another “pure heaven”). Oh, and they have stunning colors to choose from, including pinstripes, blush pink, and bluestone. Swoon!

2. Sijo’s LuxeWeave Linen Sheet Set

Budget friendly
Eco friendly packaging
GOTS certified
Natural materials

Best For | Affordable linen sheets
Materials | Organic French flax linen
Starting At | $175 for queen set

We’ve long loved Sijo for its eucalyptus cooling sheets, which are made from eucalyptus fibers spun into lyocell. But now, Sijo also offers organic French flax linen sheet sets, and they are surprisingly affordable! Each small batch of hand-crafted linen yarn is sourced from Normandy, France, a region known for producing some of the best linen in the world. The fabric is natural and breathable, made from premium GOTS-certified organic flax fibers. It is also free from harmful chemicals, pesticides, and GMOs.

As for comfort, Sijo stone-washes its linen beforehand, so the sheets are soft when they arrive and continue to soften over time (which we’ve noticed after just one more wash). Our first night’s sleep was peaceful and sweat-free, thanks to the linen’s cooling properties. We paired it with a light summer quilt, which felt like the dreamiest vacation bed. One note is that you can choose between a set with or without a flat sheet. We recommend selecting a flat sheet for a lightweight linen layer between you and your duvet/quilt — this kept us even cooler! We rank Sijo high for the brand’s affordability and linen quality.

3. Buffy’s Breeze Sheets Set

BIPOC Owned
Eco friendly packaging
Natural materials
Third party tested

Best For | Try before you buy
Materials | Eucalyptus (lyocell)
Starting At | $195 for queen sheet set

It wouldn’t be a cooling sheets guide without Buffy on the list! We were so excited to try out the internet’s favorite cooling bedding brand and let us say, these sheets did not disappoint! Buffy’s breeze sheets are made from eucalyptus (lyocell), which is more breathable and transports moisture faster than cotton or linen. They weigh 120 grams per square meter (which is exceptionally light), and yet these sheets are tear- and pilling-resistant. Even cooler? Buffy uses a third party to test the wash limit of the sheets, and these ones will withstand 255+ washes (7+ years of use in the average home). How is that for an investment?! As for our night of sleep on them, the rumors are true. Eucalyptus sheets may be the best when it comes to cooling sheets. Honestly, there isn’t anything as soft and cooling, in our opinion! Oh, and guess what? You can even try these sheets for free with Buffy’s 7-night sleep trial. Order now and pay later!

4. Pact’s Organic Cool Air Percale Sheet Set

Eco friendly packaging
Fair trade
GOTS certified
Natural materials

Best For | Organic cotton cooling sheets
Materials | Ultra-light organic percale
Starting At | $150 for queen sheet set

For a percale option, we tried Pact’s GOTS-certified organic cotton set in white. The goal was to replicate that “hotel crispness” feel, which we’re happy to say we achieved with this sheet set. As soon as they were on the bed, we noticed that classic crispness (think vacation resorts), and sleeping on them that first night felt just like being in a five-star hotel on some faraway island. We had no night sweats and stayed cool, even during the summer heat.

Pact’s sheets are made in a certified Fair Trade factory in India, employing nearly 1,000 people. They are also on the more affordable side and available in five different size options, so you can get them for kids’ beds or the guest room. We especially love how durable these feel since cotton sheets can get worn out fairly quickly. These ones seem like they’ll hold up even after many washes. Other reviewers seem to love them, too!

5. Homebird’s Cool & Crisp Percale Sheet Set

BIPOC Owned
Eco friendly packaging
Fair trade
Family owned
GOTS certified
Natural materials
Small business
Woman owned

Best For | Cooling sheets from a small, family-run brand
Materials | GOTS certified organic cotton
Starting At | $143 for queen set

Saloni and Gaurav Sanghai launched Homebird with a mission to find reasonably priced and responsibly made home goods — and it’s safe to say we’re big fans. While we love the Canadian brand’s bath goods and blankets, we love the bedding most of all — specifically the cooling sheets. In fact, before conducting this review, we’d been sleeping on Homebird’s percale sheets for over a year — they are a household fave and have held up to hundreds of washes!

These cooling sheets are made with 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton that is fully traceable and sewn in a fairtrade factory. They are gentle on the skin without feeling too warm and offer that percale crispness we love so much. We always wake up sweat-free and rested when sleeping on Homebird bedding. The earth-inspired color options are a big bonus, too! Peep the soft gray and sage green.

6. Avocado’s Percale Organic Cotton Sheets

American made
B corp
Budget friendly
Climate neutral
Eco friendly packaging
GOTS certified
Made safe
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified

Best For | Organic percale sheets with 100-night sleep warranty
Materials | GOTS certified organic cotton
Starting At | $99 for queen set

It’s no secret that Avocado is one of our favorite bedding brands. We have long loved their organic linen sheets for a cooler night of rest. For this review, though, we wanted to test the brand’s more affordable option (since the linen sheets cost a steep $400+). Instead, we tested the lightweight and airy percale organic cotton sheets, which come in at — gasp! — under $100.

Avocado’s cooling sheets are stitched with long-staple organic cotton in a 200-thread-count, tight-knit weave that’s naturally breathable and sleeps cool. It’s perfect for warm climates and hot sleepers, and the brand claims the sheets get softer with every wash (we found this to be true!). On our bed, they are soft yet cool to the touch. We’re also huge fans of Avocado’s MADE SAFE certifications to ensure the bedding is free of any dangerous ingredients or chemicals. If you’re on the fence, the brand offers a 100-night sleep trial!

7. ettitude’s Linen+ Sheet Set

1% for the planet
B corp
Climate neutral
Eco friendly packaging
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified

Best For | CleanBamboo® and hemp blend cooling sheets
Materials | OEKO-TEX certified bamboo lyocell
Starting At | $369 for queen sheet set

ettitude is best known for its bamboo bedding — just as soft as silk and as cooling as light cotton. The brand’s CleanBamboo® is a unique, patented fabric that is a bamboo lyocell but without caustic soda or other harmful chemicals like the traditional viscose. These sheets are also made using regenerative plants for the brand’s fibers, and it’s the first ever fully traceable and closed loop system for bamboo. All of that sounds great, right? But how do they actually sleep? We’re happy to say the hype is true, and we love how soft and cool these sheets feel from the get-go. They wash easily and go on even easier. It’s been a hot summer in Los Angeles (we’re talking triple digits), and we haven’t sweat a drop while sleeping on this set. ettitude’s numerous certifications and sustainability efforts make this an easy buy for us. Plus, the brand even does a sleep trial so that you can test them for yourself!

8. Brooklinen’s Linen Core Sheet Set

Family owned
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified

Best For | Linen sheet bundles
Materials | OEKO-TEX certified flax linen
Starting At | $339 for queen sheet set

Linen is often queen when it comes to staying cool, so we have another recommendation for your bedding! This is our second set of Brooklinen sheets because we love them so much. These washed linen sheets are made in Portugal using 100% flax linen, and we love how airy and lightweight (145 gsm) they are for super hot sleepers. These Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified sheets are also stonewashed for extra softness and dyed in small batches (the color options are super dreamy — we opted for the Onyx sheets). Pair with the brand’s linen duvet cover for an ultimate cozy and cool night of sleep!

9. Silk & Snow’s Percale Bed Sheets

Budget friendly
GOTS certified
Natural materials

Best For | Percale sheets with organic dyes
Materials | Portuguese-made percale cotton
Starting At | $125 for queen sheet set

With almost 300 five-star reviews, we were really excited to try Silk & Snow’s percale cooling sheets, which are made in Portugal using GOTS-approved organic dyes at a textile processing facility in Guimarães (The facility is dedicated to preserving the environment by minimizing atmospheric emissions and wastewater discharges as well — super cool!). As for how the sheets wash and sleep, the one-over-one-under weave makes them incredibly breathable, and we noticed immediate cooling when climbing into bed. Other reviewers express that they are the perfect weight for summer months, and we couldn’t agree more. We’ll be picking up another set for the guest room! Silk & Snow also has a 100-night sleep trial.

10. Under The Canopy’s Organic Percale Sheet Set

Budget friendly
Eco friendly packaging
GOTS certified
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified

Best For | Organic percale sheets
Materials | OEKO-TEX certified organic percale cotton sheets
Starting At | $118 for queen sheet set

Last on the list, but certainly not least! — is the bestselling organic percale sheets from tried and true bedding brand Under The Canopy. We’ve tested quite a few items from Under The Canopy, including towels and blankets, and the brand never fails to impress us with the quality and craftsmanship of the home goods products. We knew the percale sheets would impress us, too, and the first night of sleep on them was one of our best from the entire list. The 300 thread count organic cotton percale feels extra crisp and smooth (think classic cotton button-down shirt), and we slept cool throughout the night, even with temps soaring in LA. We love the many color options, price points, and the brand’s other offerings — like the new organic Matelasse blanket, which we’re currently using as an alternative to our duvet for the summer months!
