Iโve personally reviewed nontoxic and sustainable home decor for years. These are my favorite linen curtains for creating an airy and inviting home.
If youโre anything like me and are slowly trying to create a more nontoxic, sustainable home, you probably already know how surprisingly difficult it is to find good linen curtains. So many options look beautiful online, but once you dig a little deeper, itโs hard to tell where the flax was sourced, how the fabric was made, or whether the curtains will actually hold up over time.
Thatโs why I spent months researching and testing linen curtains from a wide range of brands, looking closely at everything from material sourcing and certifications to texture, opacity, and overall quality once they were hanging in our homes. I focused on options made with organic and/or sustainably grown flax, thoughtful production practices, and fabrics that feel substantial enough to last for years.
After living with them in my home, opening and closing them daily, and seeing how they filtered light throughout the day, I’ve narrowed down the very best linen curtains that I would purchase again in a heartbeat (and often recommend to friends!).
Why are linen curtains supreme?
After testing dozens of linen curtains in my own home, I understand why theyโve remained a staple in beautifully designed spaces for so long. Linen has an effortless elegance (it’s relaxed yet refined), and it brings softness and texture to a room that few fabrics can match. Specifically with curtains, linen does well to filter natural light and helps create a warm, diffused glow. This can make a space feel instantly calmer and more inviting.
Beyond aesthetics, linen is also functional, durable, and sustainable. The fabric is naturally breathable, which can help rooms feel cooler in warmer months. Itโs durable enough to last for years, and unlike trend-driven fabrics, linen gets better with time and wear. Because linen is made from flax, it generally requires less water and fewer pesticides to produce than many conventional textiles, and itโs fully biodegradable.
Our testing criteria & methodology:
I tested linen curtains from dozens of sustainable brands in my own home, hanging each one in the dining room to get a feel for the opacity, weight, and overall look throughout the day. I first tested Magic Linen’s Tab Top Linen Curtain Panel in Striped Natural in spring 2025, and they’ve been the curtains in my dining room ever since. These linen panels are from 100% European flax and stone-washed for maximum softness, and they are OEKO-TEXยฎ certified, putting them at the top of my list. Quince’s Coastal Stripe linen curtains (technically a cotton/linen blend) have been a game-changer for my sleep, especially as a new parent. I first received a pair in spring 2025 and immediately hung them in our bedroom in preparation for our daughter. The blackout lining has kept our bedroom dark and cool in the hot Los Angeles summers, and we’re going on a little over a year since first hanging them. I’ve even considered getting a pair for our guest room. Quince also has a popular European Linen Curtain panel, with over 500 five-star reviews, which I’ve tested more recently. It’s midweight and perfect for filtering light and granting a little privacy, too.

One of my favorite discoveries has been LinenbyMN, a Los Angeles-based shop that makes some of the best affordable linen curtains Iโve found. I originally came across the brand while searching for a custom curtain panel for the awkward window on our front door, and loved that it’s family-owned and makes everything by hand. I ended up choosing the cafe curtain in the oversized check pattern and appreciated being able to customize the exact dimensions so it fit the space perfectly. The finished curtain gives us extra privacy while still letting in plenty of natural light, and the shipping was incredibly fast, especially since Iโm also based in Los Angeles.

The quality always feels exceptional and thoughtfully designed. And what I especially love is how customizable everything is. The curtains pictured below were tailored specifically for a smaller window (it doesn’t photograph well, which is why you’re seeing them here!). I was also able to choose the fabric weight, color, and heading style. If you’re someone whoโs constantly frustrated by curtains that are either too long or never quite the right proportions, the shorter, made-to-order options are perfection. I especially love how these are fully customizable, meaning you can choose your length, trim, rod pocket styles, and more. Because they are made to order, the curtains are final sale, but the brand is so easy to work with if you have questions about measurements, and they offer fabric swatches.
