We’ve gathered our friends and families around sustainable furniture for years. These are our favorite wooden dining tables that are sustainable, eco-friendly, and made to last.
Some of the strongest memories you’ll ever make in your home center around the dining table, from late nights with friends to late nights helping the kids with homework. Gathering with other folks to eat, drink, and talk — that’s what it’s all about, right?
And the benefits of family mealtimes gathered around the dining room table can’t be overstated. Cooking at home is by and large much healthier and cheaper than eating out. And “then the mental health benefits are just incredible,” Anne Fishel, a family therapist and the executive director of the Family Dinner Project told the Harvard Edcast podcast in 2020. “Regular family dinners are associated with lower rates of depression, and anxiety, and substance abuse, and eating disorders, and tobacco use, and early teenage pregnancy, and higher rates of resilience and higher self-esteem.”
A good dining room table is like the beating heart of your home — so we’re here to help you shop for one that’s good for you and for the earth.
Why shop for sustainable wooden furniture?
We get it — chopping down trees to make furniture doesn’t sound like the most sustainable thing in the world. But that’s actually a misconception. Wooden furniture takes less energy and resources to make than furniture made from synthetic or composite materials. While the most sustainable furniture options are refinishing what you already have or buying secondhand, the second best option is looking for furniture made of reclaimed wood. And virgin wooden furniture that’s ethically made is your next best bet.
The furniture companies below all boast third-party certifications that demonstrate their sustainability. When shopping for anything wood or paper, keep an eye out for the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) logo, which ensures responsible management of the forests used for timber. Another wood certification to look for is SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative). And other, more general certifications to keep an eye out for when shopping for home goods include Climate Neutral, Made Safe, Greenguard, and B Corp certs.
Keep in mind, too, that certain wood tables market themselves as wood, but are really made of composite or synthetic materials — so when looking for wood tables, make sure you read all the details.
Another plus about wooden furniture? When made well, they’re more durable than synthetics — they’ll last you a lifetime and probably much longer, too, so you can pass them on for generations. Wood is fairly easy to repair and refinish when needed, and its timelessness can’t be beat. A simple, well-made wooden table will never go out of style.

Best Round | Best Rectangular | Most Affordable
1. Avocado
Best For | Reclaimed wood
Price Starting At | $1,499
Avocado’s zero waste round table is as sustainable as it is beautiful. It has a really sophisticated design with a slatted center that is charming and functional — and while the tabletop’s diameter is only four feet, you can easily fit four (or five or six if you squeeze) folks around the table. The top is FSC-certified virgin wood, while the base is upcycled wood from their LA workshop. The table’s made entirely of solid wood, with zero-VOC finishes, and responsible glues. And it comes in two finishes: Blonde and walnut. Plus Avocado has some of the most impressive third-party certs out there — they’re Climate Neutral and Greenguard certified, they’re a member of 1% for the Planet, and they’re a B Corp, too.
2. MasayaCo
Best For | Responsible forest management
Price Starting At | $1,995
MasayaCo crafts all of their “seed to seat” furniture from durable teakwood that comes from their sustainable forests. Their responsibly managed forests mean that they have a carbon-negative business model — they’ve planted over a million trees to date, establishing tree farms on deforested cow pastures. Plus, 40% of the forests they manage are even left untouched. They offer a few different dining table options, each of which has a sleek, simple design. The Apanas table and the AP table both come in either six- or eight-person options, and the Apanas table has two color options. Each table is handcrafted in Nicaragua of nothing but solid hardwood, and prices start around two grand.
3. Urban Natural
Best For | Marketplace with different brands
Price Starting At | $1,010
Urban Natural is a marketplace that partners with furniture makers around the country to bring customers handmade, sustainable furniture, all in one place. They have a huge selection of dining tables, in all different shapes, sizes, and prices. Some of their smaller, four-person tables start close to $1,000, while they also have some huge ten-seaters that can go for upwards of $5,000. Some of their most popular models include the Bok Dining Table, that’s simple, elegant, and made of oak or teak, or the Audrey Round Extension Dining Table. Some of their tables have gorgeous geometric designs, too, if you want something more eye-catching. Read the specs on each company’s sustainability practices when you’re browsing, and note that 90% of Urban Naturals’ partners craft their furniture in the US.
4. Maiden Home
Best For | Made-to-order tables
Price Starting At | $2,450
Maiden Home specializes in what they call “slow crafting,” partnering with artisans around the country for timeless pieces designed to become heirlooms. Their furniture is first designed in their New York studio, then handcrafted by their North Carolina partners — which is why all of their tables take around six weeks till they make their way to you, since they’re all made-to-order. Their simplest design, the Bedford Table, comes in seven different length options, from 40 inches to 96 inches, and is made of solid ash for a delicate, clean look. Some of their other designs have more particular design features, like the columnar legs of the Reade Table or the conical legs of the Banks Table.
5. West Elm
Best For | Lots of variety
Price Starting At | $599
High-end furniture authority West Elm has (unsurprisingly) an impressive lineup of all-wood dining tables that start around just $600 for four-person options. Their Jax Round Dining Table comes in both 48- and 60-inch options, and has strikingly geometric legs, while their Box Frame Drop Leaf Expandable Table has a solid mango wood top that’s sustainably sourced and made in a Fair Trade-certified factory. Since West Elm has such a huge lineup of dining tables, read up on the specs for each one when making sustainability decisions. Some of their tables have solid wood legs but engineered wood tops, for example, and each table will give you the details on where and how it was made. And West Elm has plenty of non-wood tables, too, so make sure you have your search filters on!
6. IKEA
Best For | Affordable price point
Price Starting At | $99
Hear us out here — IKEA actually makes some great solid wood, FSC-certified tables. They partner with the FSC, and they recently announced a new “forest positive agenda.” And, like all IKEA products, their wood tables are impressively priced. Their Ingo table is made of solid pine, is 47 inches long on its long side, and only costs around $100. They make plenty of other tables in bigger sizes, too, but note that many of these models, like West Elm’s, are only partially wood — many have solid wood legs, but tops made of wood veneer over particleboard.
7. Sundays
Best For | Designed for longevity
Price Starting At | $1,480
Sundays specializes in furniture that looks so high-end — without the high-end price points. The brand was founded by four friends who wanted to make furniture that was timeless, durable, and accessible. They make all kinds of furniture, from couches to coffee tables to storage solutions, and they have a super decent lineup of dining tables — nine different models, to be precise. Their most affordable model, the Frame Round Dining Table, is made of solid walnut and has a four-foot dimension. It has an invisible steel frame, too, which means it’s designed for longevity. They make a few other dining tables in larger sizes, too, all of which have chic yet timeless designs and are braced with steel for durability.
8. House of Léon
Best For | Timeless designs
Price Starting At | $2,490
Based in LA, House of Léon is all about furniture that is designed well, crafted well, and priced well. All their furniture is made at a family-owned atelier of woods sourced in the Mediterranean, so their pieces rely more on good design than on trends. They make two dining table models — one that’s round with a dimension of either 40 or 50 inches, and one that’s rectangular with lengths of either 72, 84, or 90 inches. Each comes in either solid ash wood, which has a lighter color with gray undertones, or solid white oak, which has a more honey-toned hue. The tables are sturdy yet minimalistic and have glowing reviews on the website, to boot.
9. Eva
Best For | Families with kids
Price Starting At | $900
Known for their award-winning sofa bed, Australia-based furniture brand Eva makes one solid wood dining table — that’s impressively affordable, at just around $1,000. It’s made of nothing but sustainably sourced solid American oak, and it comes in both four-seater and six-seater options. It has practical rounded edges and is finished with a natural oil for durability, too, so it’s well-suited for the wear and tear of daily life with kids. Eva is all about making high-quality products that won’t break the bank, and their designs are minimalistic and practical. The company is even a certified B Corp.
