For years, our editors have personally tested the best nontoxic baby and parenting products. These are our favorite baby changing tables made with safe materials and sustainable manufacturing processes.
There’s an ongoing debate about whether or not baby changing tables are a necessary registry item. Our opinion? They offer the perfect counter height that will come in handy for the many, many diaper changes in your future (read: back-pain-preventing wonders). Many also include space for an attachment or come with removable trays, so your dresser can easily grow with your child.
As always, we prioritize products made with sustainably sourced and manufactured materials like solid wood and nontoxic paint and finishes. After all, your baby will spend a lot of time resting on these tables, so it’s important they’re certified for low chemical emissions.
Why is nontoxic baby furniture important?
Your little one is interacting with baby furniture such as cribs and changing tables often, which is why the materials matter. Parents appreciate that nontoxic baby furniture won’t expose them to harmful chemicals like formaldehyde or flame retardants, which could affect your family’s health.
These safer materials also come with GREENGUARD Gold and FSC certifications and comply with the safety and performance standards and rules set by Advancing Standards Transforming Markets (ASTM) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Our criteria:
- SAFETY | Beyond providing a cleaner environment for your kids, make sure the furniture you’re buying comes with anti-tip hardware. These anchor your pieces down to help prevent babyproofing or earthquake-related accidents. Plus, retailers sell anti-tip kits you can purchase separately.
- EASY TO CLEAN | Changing tables have a tendency to get quite messy, especially when a dreaded poopsplosion inevitably happens. Finding a product you can easily wipe clean or throw in the wash is a must.
- DURABILITY | The best nursery furniture can age with your child, so durable, long-lasting materials like solid wood are best.
Your baby registry checklist can feel endless. To help you choose the essentials, we’ve highlighted our favorite high chairs, car seats without flame retardants, convertible cribs, nursery gliders, and pack n plays.
1. Nestig
Best For | Heirloom-quality changing tables
Materials | Brazilian pine and eco-engineered wood
Dimensions | 37”L x 20.7”W x 36.3”H3
Price | $1,049+
Started by experienced parents, Nestig goes beyond what parents and babies need. Focused on what families want in nursery furniture, they’ve created pieces that adapt as your family grows. Their durable products are heirloom-quality, and they keep inventory low through their “just enough” business model. Made with sustainably harvested wood and other nontoxic materials, this is a brand parents have come to trust. Contributing editor Courtney Jay Higgins brought home the 3-in-1 Wave Crib, and says the GREENGUARD Gold certification gave her more confidence each time her baby slept. “For the years she’ll be sleeping in this bed, we can feel peace knowing she’s not breathing in harmful chemicals,” she says.
The Wave Dresser is made with the same solid Brazilian pine, has been third-party tested for safety, and comes with an anti-tip kit. Depending on the size of baby’s room, you can choose between two types: the six-drawer dresser, or one with three drawers in the middle and two cabinets on either side. Our editors also love The Cove Assembled Dresser with its 100% cotton webbing drawer fronts. It’s perfect for small spaces and nurseries, and the roomy drawers are ideal for storing diapers, onesies, and more.
Editor Review | “Our daughter’s room is only 10×10, and so we have to be smart about the furniture we choose if we want to have a crib, changing table, and glider. The Cove is absolutely perfect for our space, and she loves sitting atop the dresser, even as a squirmy toddler. The drawers close gently and are deep enough to keep essentials nearby. I recommend this one to all my parent friends who are on the hunt for the perfect small changing table that can later be used as a dresser for kids or adults.” – Kayti Christian, Senior Content Strategist
2. dadada
Best For | Changing tables with organized storage attachments
Materials | Made from TSCA-compliant MDF, lead- and phthalate-free, baby-safe paint
Dimensions | 46.5”L x 18.5”W x 3.5”H
Price | $99
Dadada is a newer company, but they say their roots date back a century. Grounded in family traditions, craftsmanship, and Italian design, the company prioritizes baby and parenting products that make life easier and last. Case in point: The brand’s many changing table attachments. The brand offers three, made to pair with its lineup of dressers. This is a noteworthy feature, since many parents will only have kids in diapers for a few years. After that, you can remove the changing tray and keep it in a children’s room or even move it to a guest room. It’s a low-maintenance solution for those who don’t want to commit to a product with a built-in tray.
The nontoxic finish is noteworthy, and the brand says that it’s also chip-resistant. At $99, these attachments are smaller investments, too, and each one comes with a one-year warranty.
Customer Review | “Love how easily this changing tray can be removed once we’re done using it! It’s simple to assemble, and the extra storage is a great bonus.” – CW (Read more reviews.)

3. Stokke
Best For | Oval shaped changing tables
Materials | Solid beech, beech plywood, MDF
Dimensions | 31.5”L x 21.1”W x 36.2”H
Price | $449
Stokke, the legendary Norwegian company founded nearly 100 years ago, is known for its legacy of craftsmanship. From the iconic Tripp Trapp high chair to YOYO stroller, their products have been popular for generations. In a baby’s nursery, their Sleepi collection is defined by oval-shaped items. The Stokke Sleepi Changing Table, paired with the similarly sized Sleepi bassinet, is designed for babies 0 to 12 months. The Scandinavian design is simple and sophisticated, and the changing pad is conveniently removable and machine washable — a dream for overtired parents. Even with its compact form, we appreciate that the lower shelf has plenty of space for diapering essentials or anything else you might need in a pinch.
There’s also security in knowing you can return this product within 30 days of bringing it home. The company accepts free returns, showing one way they’re looking out for you and your family.
4. Babyletto
Best For | Space saving changing tables
Materials | New Zealand pinewood and TSCA-compliant engineered wood
Dimensions | 40.75″L x 19″W x 34″H
Price | $499
Los Angeles-based company Babyletto has made nursery furniture for more than a decade, and the proof is in their thoughtfully designed items. Take the Yuzu dresser, which is available with three, six, or nine drawers. We’re partial to the three-drawer option, a compact storage solution with three drawers, one cabinet, and a removable changing tray. From a design standpoint, it’s a true complement to the brand’s popular Yuzu 8-in-1 convertible crib. Although it meets or exceeds all necessary safety standards, an anti-tip kit is included for extra peace of mind. (I have the six-drawer dresser, which I topped with a woven changing tray from Pottery Barn. I love the entire Yuzu collection. Babyletto’s designs hold up so well. I’m gearing up to use it for my second baby in a few months!)
Many of the brand’s changing tables are space-saving, such as the coastal-chic Swell and midcentury modern Scoot. If you’re not set on one particular style, you can also invest in this removable changing tray, available in 23 different colors and wood stains. All Babyletto products go through a multi-step painting process with nontoxic, lead- and phthalate-safe materials.
Customer Review | “I absolutely love the Yuzu 3-Drawer Changer Dresser! It’s the perfect blend of style, functionality, and convenience. The three spacious drawers provide ample storage for clothes, diapers, and other baby essentials, keeping everything organized and within easy reach. The changing station make the diaper changes quick and easy.” – Maria P. (Read more reviews.)
5. DaVinci
Best For | Affordable changing tables
Materials | New Zealand pinewood and TSCA-compliant engineered wood
Dimensions | 33.75″L x 18.5″W x 40″H
Price | $199
Parenthood can be pricey, which is why we love when brands like DaVinci offer high-quality, sustainably made furniture at lower price points. DaVinci’s best-selling Jenny Lind Convertible Crib pairs seamlessly with the Jenny Lind Changing Table. Both vintage-inspired products are GREENGUARD Gold certified, and made with solid pinewood. The changing table features spindles similar to the crib on the first tier and includes a waterproof changing pad and anti-tip kit. The two shelves below the changing area are ideal for storing extra diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer, and a few extra sets of onesies. Beyond the essentials, they also offer a spot to display toys, photos, and other nursery decor.
For a two-in-one furniture piece, the Charlie 4-in-1 Convertible Crib and Changer Combo and Kalani 4-in-1 Crib and Changer Combo combine two staples into one. Complete with three drawers, it offers safe sleeping, diapering, and storage for a baby’s room or any nursery nook.
