Receiving the mattress

Since I live in Southern California and Brentwood Home manufactures and ships directly from Los Angeles, my mattress arrived quickly and was delivered right to my doorstep! It came in a large, sturdy cardboard box, and the mattress was shrink-wrapped, making it more compact and easier to handle. Since we opted for a twin-size mattress (sorry, guests, not much extra room here), I was able to maneuver it on my own — no problem, even while pregnant! That said, I did have my husband help with opening the box and getting the mattress out of its vacuum-sealed packaging, but the entire process took, I kid you not, just about five minutes.

The bed arrived in a cardboard box and was shrink-wrapped in plastic. It was incredibly easy to unpack and took just five minutes.

Once the mattress was out, it quickly expanded to its full size and was ready to be placed on the bed frame. We flipped it right onto the frame and let it “air out” overnight, though there was no real need for that since it’s nontoxic — there were zero weird smells or off-gassing. I just prefer to let it sit “naked” for a few hours before making the bed, giving it time to settle fully.

First impressions and sleeping on the mattress

The next day, we eagerly made up the bed with linen sheets from our friends at 3HLinen (only the best for our guests, of course!). Naturally, we had to test the mattress ourselves to make sure it would be comfortable enough for both us and our guests. While it’s primarily meant to be a guest bed for when friends and family visit (especially once baby arrives and we need the extra help), my husband works shift hours as a firefighter, so this mattress will also be his go-to spot for daytime naps since the baby will be sleeping in our room during the first year.
