Summary: I upgraded my guest room with Brentwood’s Crystal Cove Flippable Mattress, and it’s been a perfect addition. Made with organic latex and charcoal-infused memory foam, it’s nontoxic, supportive, and features a flippable design for all types of sleepers. With its sleek cover and 975 pocketed coils, it’s both luxurious and comfortable—my guests have loved it so much, I’m now considering one for my own room!

Pros:

  • Two beds in one! – The flippable design means you (or your guests) can choose between a firmer latex side or a softer memory foam side — because everyone has their own version of comfy.
  • Clean and green – No weird chemicals here! Made with GOLS-certified organic latex and charcoal-infused memory foam, it’s completely free from fiberglass and chemical flame retardants.
  • Supportive and cozy – With 975 pocketed coils, this mattress gives just the right amount of support — perfect for relieving back pain and getting that deep, restorative sleep.
  • Looks as good as it feels – The stitched gray fabric cover gives it a high-end, sophisticated vibe that makes the whole room feel more put-together.

Cons:

  • Not for memory foam skeptics – The memory foam side is plush and contouring, but if you prefer a bouncy, traditional innerspring feel, this might not be for you.
  • It’s an investment – At $1149 for a Twin, it’s pricier than a budget mattress from Ikea — but with high-quality, nontoxic materials and a flippable design, you’re getting way more bang for your buck.

This year has been full of surprises — including an unexpected move to a new city and home. And while moving comes with its fair share of stress, one of the biggest silver linings has been finally having a second bedroom to create a hybrid office/guest room. After years of offering guests an air mattress (or, let’s be honest, the couch), I knew it was time to invest in a real bed — one that would make visitors feel genuinely comfortable and cared for.

Now, I should mention that I take sleep very seriously. Over the years, I’ve tested and reviewed more mattresses than I can count, earning my unofficial title as the go-to person in my family and friend group for all things bedding. Need to know the difference between memory foam, hybrid, or latex? I’ve got you. Searching for a breathable, nontoxic duvet? I’m your girl. So, of course, I couldn’t just pick any mattress for my guest room — I wanted something versatile, high-quality, and, most importantly, free of questionable chemicals.

Enter the Brentwood Home Crystal Cove Flippable Mattress.

About Brentwood Home

Brentwood Home has been making dreamy, eco-friendly sleep and wellness essentials since the ‘80s, right out of Los Angeles. Every mattress is handcrafted in their Southern California factory using high-quality, nontoxic materials that are better for people and the planet. But they don’t stop at mattresses — they also make plush pillows, breathable bedding, and even yoga mats and play couches (perfect for little ones and cozy lounging alike). The brand’s mission? Creating comfy, sustainable home essentials without questionable chemicals.

“The brand’s mission? Creating comfy, sustainable home essentials without questionable chemicals.”

The Crystal Cove mattress is just another perfect example of what they do best. It’s made with GOLS-certified organic latex (no synthetic fillers) and has a charcoal-infused memory foam layer to keep things cool. It’s great for anyone who sleeps warm and perfect for where I live in Southern California. Plus, it’s fiberglass-free and made without chemical flame retardants, so no weird smells or hidden toxins. The best part? It’s flippable! It has a firmer latex side and a softer memory foam side, so guests can pick their perfect level of support.

As for actual certifications, Brentwood Home products are certified with GOLS and GOTS for organic latex and textiles, ensuring they meet strict sustainability and environmental standards. They also hold CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifications, guaranteeing their foams and fabrics are free from harmful chemicals and safe for both people and the planet.

Receiving the mattress

Since I live in Southern California and Brentwood Home manufactures and ships directly from Los Angeles, my mattress arrived quickly and was delivered right to my doorstep! It came in a large, sturdy cardboard box, and the mattress was shrink-wrapped, making it more compact and easier to handle. Since we opted for a twin-size mattress (sorry, guests, not much extra room here), I was able to maneuver it on my own — no problem, even while pregnant! That said, I did have my husband help with opening the box and getting the mattress out of its vacuum-sealed packaging, but the entire process took, I kid you not, just about five minutes.

Once the mattress was out, it quickly expanded to its full size and was ready to be placed on the bed frame. We flipped it right onto the frame and let it “air out” overnight, though there was no real need for that since it’s nontoxic — there were zero weird smells or off-gassing. I just prefer to let it sit “naked” for a few hours before making the bed, giving it time to settle fully.

The stitched gray fabric cover is not only beautiful but feels so much higher-end than traditional mattress fabrics, adding a sleek, sophisticated touch to the room (a nice addition that further justifies the $1K  price point). The whole setup was one of the easiest and most stress-free mattress experiences I’ve ever had—and while I wish I had more to say about it, I don’t — it was that uneventful in the best way possible!

First impressions and sleeping on the mattress

The next day, we eagerly made up the bed with linen sheets from our friends at 3HLinen (only the best for our guests, of course!). I absolutely love these sheets because they’re 100% flax linen, handmade, and OEKO-TEX Certified — the perfect blend of luxury and sustainability. Naturally, we had to test the mattress ourselves to make sure it would be comfortable enough for both us and our guests. While it’s primarily meant to be a guest bed for when friends and family visit (especially once baby arrives and we need the extra help), my husband works shift hours as a firefighter, so this mattress will also be his go-to spot for daytime naps since the baby will be sleeping in our room during the first year.

“It includes 975 8-inch contouring pocketed coils, specifically designed to promote therapeutic recovery and deep, restorative sleep — and they aren’t lying.”

For context, we currently sleep on the Avocado Green mattress, so this is our first experience with a nontoxic memory foam mattress. Neither of us was quite sure what to expect, so we decided to start on the medium-soft side. From a specs perspective, this mattress really delivers. Brentwood boasts that it includes 975 8-inch contouring pocketed coils, specifically designed to promote therapeutic recovery and deep, restorative sleep — and they aren’t lying. Pregnancy has taken quite a toll on my body, especially with sciatica, back pain, and hip discomfort, so I was honestly shocked to wake up feeling more rested and pain-free than I have in months. The extra support from the coils combined with the soft memory foam side made all the difference — I actually slept better on this mattress than I do on my own!

Final thoughts

A wooden bed with white bedding and a single pillow is in a corner of a room with light-colored walls and a window. Hardwood floor is visible.
I love how our new guest bed has turned out — and my guests have raved about the comfort too!

Setting up this mattress in my guest room felt like a true adulting win — no more apologizing for lumpy air mattresses or tossing an extra blanket on the couch. Now, my friends and family have a real bed to sink into, and the feedback has already been glowing. My mom and a close friend have both stayed over, and each raved about how comfortable it is — knowing my guests are well-rested makes me so happy as a host.

“Setting up this mattress in my guest room felt like a true adulting win — no more apologizing for lumpy air mattresses or tossing an extra blanket on the couch.”

The Crystal Cove Flippable Mattress is a total winner if you’re searching for a guest bed (or even your own!) that’s nontoxic, supportive, and adaptable for different sleep styles. It’s a little slice of luxury, packed with thoughtful design and comfort — and honestly? I’m seriously considering getting one for my room now.
